DIY: Holiday Cranberry Face Mask

I have to admit that I will try anything once when it comes to beauty products and anything that will have a benefit for my skin. This includes any DIY beauty concoctions!

I recently stumbled upon a face mask recipe online that I thought sounded really great and very fitting for this time of year. Not just because it is cold and dry right now, but because we are approaching the holiday season and thought it sounded fun to incorporate.

So let's get started....

What you'll need:

6 tablespoons of fresh cranberries
3 tablespoons of highest fat yogurt
2 tablespoons of honey
2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

Why these ingredients?

Cranberries

Cranberries are known to have anti-inflammatory properties, which can be beneficial for all skin types. They are also a powerful antioxidant, containing Vitamins C, B-3, and B-5, which all help to provide protection against harsh environmental damage, especially this time of year when it is cold and dry. They also can have brightening effects on the skin.

Yogurt [high fat]

Yogurt contains something called Lactic Acid, which is highly beneficial for the skin. It is a natural exfoliate, which helps remove dry, dead skin cells. It also helps with cell renewal, keeping our skin soft and supple. Lactic Acid has natural humectant properties, meaning it attracts moisture from the outside and draws it in. This is especially great for those with dry skin types.

Honey

Honey is a natural antioxidant with anti-microbial properties, which means it helps to draw impurities from the skin, acting as a natural cleanser.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olive Oil is said to be one of the best moisturizers next to shea butter, which is no wonder why we add it to this recipe. It contains Vitamin E which acts as an antioxidant for the skin, as well as Vitamin K which has brightening qualities, when applied topically. Olive Oil also contains something called chlorophyll, which helps to repair the skin's cells.

Here's How:

Take the 6 tablespoons of fresh cranberries and boil for 5 minutes, covering with a lid, because cranberries pop when you boil them and you don't want hot water flying all over! Once the cranberries have boiled, drain the water and mash with a fork, leave to cool.

Once the cranberries have cooled add 3 tablespoons of yogurt and mix well. Next, add 2 tablespoons of honey and mix well into cranberry | yogurt mixture. Last, but not least add in 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Mix well.

Once the mixture is complete, place in fridge for 10 minutes. You are now ready to prep your skin for the face mask!

Cleanse face, removing all makeup, etc from the skin. Next, place a hot [as hot as you can stand] over your face and wait until the cloth cools. This is going to open up your pores so that your skin can absorb the benefits from the ingredients in the mask.

Once you have completed the hot cloth, apply a generous layer of the mask to your face. Lie down and leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes. To make your down time even more luxurious add a cool eye mask! You can pick these up at any drugstore!

Once time is up, remove the face mask with a hot cloth again, to avoid any tugging at the skin. After the mask is removed, apply day or night face cream, depending what time of day!

I could definitely see a difference in my skin after only one application, my skin felt very clean and had a glow! I have very dry skin and I found that my skin felt and looked amazing after this face mask! I will be doing this one again for sure!

Let me know if you try it and what you thoughts are!
